AIB savings rates, with the caps spelled out

AIB pays a genuinely competitive 3.00% on its Online Saver, and 0.25% on almost everything else. The difference between those two numbers is a set of caps worth understanding before you open anything.

The Online Saver, honestly

The 3.00% applies to money you drip in, up to €1,000 a month. Unused allowance rolls forward, so the cap grows by €1,000 a month to a ceiling of €12,000. Anything above the limit earns the Online Standard Saver rate of 0.25%, which is where balances quietly end up once the account matures.

For a saver building a habit from salary, that structure is fine and the rate is among the best a pillar bank pays. For an existing lump sum it does almost nothing: €12,000 is the most that can ever earn the headline rate.

Where AIB puts lump sums

The fixed terms are the real lump-sum products: 1.50% for 6 months, 2.00% for a year, 2.26% AER over two years, all from €5,000 with no access during the term. The 7 day notice account pays 0.75% up to €1 million, and the demand deposit pays 0.25% on everything.

Those rates are safe, Irish-guaranteed and well below the best of the market. The gap panel above puts a number on exactly what staying loyal costs.
